Bhopal: On Tuesday, a mock drill regarding COVID-19 was being conducted at JP Hospital while a patient was left waiting for 48 minutes to receive medical attention in the emergency room. The patient, Shakuntala Devi, 60, was brought in by ambulance from TT Nagar, suffering from severe pain and numbness in both legs. Her relatives had to carry her on a stretcher themselves since no stretcher boy was present to assist them.
After reaching the hospital at 10:07 am, Devi was given a prescription, and the emergency doctor immediately referred her to surgeon Dr. MS Khan. However, when her relatives reached the first floor with her stretcher at 10:12 am, Dr. Khan was not present in his room, causing Devi to moan in pain.
Dr. Khan finally arrived at 10:56 am and prescribed a CT scan. The patient's relatives were reportedly unhappy with the delay, and the fact that the patient had to wait for more than half an hour to undergo a city scan.
Parshuram, a witness, said that Dr. Khan had gone downstairs to attend to some acquaintances and had not returned for almost half an hour. Other patients present at the hospital also complained of waiting for extended periods without receiving any medical attention.
In response to the incident, Dr. Rakesh Srivastava, the Superintendent of JP Hospital, said that they would investigate the matter and take appropriate action. He also assured the public that the hospital always helps patients in need, and there are doctors in the emergency room to provide care.
