Indore/Mumbai: The investigation of two Mumbai-based companies found guilty of forgery in wheat exports has reached the traders of Indore. A team of Mumbai officials reached Indore to investigate the grain traders. The Mumbai team questioned more than three businessmen and people associated with firms of Cantonment Anaj Mandi. Two Mumbai-based companies have been held guilty by the Ministry of Commerce and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for exporting wheat on the basis of forged documents. Government distribution wheat was also found with the firms. There was a food crisis in the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Taking advantage of the foreign demand, wheat was exported heavily from the country in the months of March, April and May. On May 13, the government had banned the export of wheat due to the need to keep the wheat in stock and keep the prices under control in the country. After this, the government had issued an order that only those firms whose export contracts i.e. Letter of Credit (LC) have been issued before May 13 will be able to ship their consignments. Thereafter, the export companies had sent applications along with LC to DGFT for obtaining permission for loading and exporting wheat. When the Ministry of Commerce conducted a strict investigation, the charge of presenting fake LC on two Mumbai based companies Pride Agro Fresh and Ganpati Traders was proved. One of these companies, Pride Agro, had also bought wheat on a large scale from the traders of Madhya Pradesh and Indore.

Government wheat also found

According to sources, wheat of Food Corporation of India (FCI) was also found in further investigation of the stock of Pride Agro. Based on the DGFT report, the Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police had registered a criminal case against the companies. The company had submitted its purchase documents and bills to the investigating officers. It also contained the names of the merchants of Indore and Ujjain.

After this the team of Mumbai EOW reached Indore and searched the records of traders of Cantonment Grain Market. The traders were asked from where the wheat they sent to Mumbai was purchased. Traders said that wheat was procured from mandi and farmers. On this, merchants' bills, vouchers, permits were also sought. Along with the written statements, documents and bank statements of the traders and others who supplied them were taken. Also videos and photos were taken. The team will reach the traders of Ujjain on Thursday for investigation.
