BHOPAL/VIDISHA: Three foreigners, including a woman, arrested from Vidisha and Bhopal districts after a jeweller accused them of forgery and theft, were sent to judicial custody by a sessions court.
ASP Sameer Yadav told that they will remain in custody for a week. "We have sent a communication to the ministry of foreign affairs (MFA) for their repatriation," Yadav said. The Iranian embassy and home department have also been informed.
The trio - identified as Rookhsareh Ansaripoor, Alireza Farzi Pour and Moniri Cholan Ali - hold Iranian passports. Police suspect they were part of a 'divert-and-steal' con gang, which operates across India.
In Vidisha's Sironj, police detained a couple, both aged around 50, following a spat with a jeweller on Monday night. They had arrived in India on a month-long tourist visa on June 26 which had expired.
On Monday night, the couple went to a jeweller's shop, asking him to show rings. They said they speak only Persian. After a few minutes, they got into a fight over currency with the jeweller, leading police to intervene. The jeweller told police that their gang member stole around Rs 48,000 from his counter while the couple kept him busy in arguments. Rookhsareh and Alireza were detained while Moniri was caught later.
