Madhya Pradesh police to have State Highway Police Stations, information sought from districts

Madhya Pradesh: To reduce road accidents in the state, preparations have started for formation of State Highway Police. In this, new police stations will be opened on National and State Highways. Police force will also be posted separately in these police stations. For this, the Police Headquarters has written a letter to the Bhopal Police Commissioner and the districts of the state seeking information about the police force and police stations for the formation of the Highway Police. The police personnel posted in the police stations of these highways will only work to reduce road accidents by spreading awareness about them.
Around 11 thousand people die in road accidents in the state. Most of the road accidents happen on National Highways, State Highways and roads in the city and rural areas. In order to prevent these road accidents, the Central Road Construction and Highways Department has written a letter to the state government on November 3, asking for formation of Highway Police to reduce road accidents by 50 percent by 2030. Regarding this, the Police Training Research Institute has got the responsibility from the Police Headquarters and they have started preparations for the formation of the State Highway Police.
Information sought from the districts:
- For the formation of highway police, information has been sought from the districts that how many police stations and police posts in their district come between the national highway and the state road.
- How much force (personnel) will be required for the formation of Highway Police.
- How many police stations need to be opened in their district to prevent accidents.
- What will the highway police do
Police stations will be opened on national highways and state roads after formation of highway police. Police forces deployed in these police stations will make smooth arrangements for traffic management on these routes. Apart from taking strict action by registering offenses for patrolling and violating traffic rules, they will get the powers to file FIRs and investigate. He will work directly under the Director General of Police in addition to the Police Training and Research Institute. Apart from this, there will be work to provide immediate help after the accident. Will make the drivers passing through the road aware about the traffic rules.
Highway police only in Maharashtra in the country
To prevent road accidents, the Highway Police has been constituted only in Maharashtra in the country. She is working by building a police station there. This has reduced road accidents.
Regarding formation of Highway Police, information has been given to the Police Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of the State about the police station and police force coming on National Highway and State Highway. After getting the information, the state highway police will be formed and police stations will be opened on the highway and a separate police force will be deployed and will only investigate road accidents.
