Olympic Bronze Medalist Wrestler Sakshi Malik Appeals for Support in Fight for Justice and Truth

Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won a bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, has appealed to wrestlers in Madhya Pradesh to support the ongoing strike against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The strike has been going on for 18 days at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
In a video released on Wednesday, Malik urged wrestlers in the Chambal region to support the cause. "If you people cannot come here (Jantar Mantar Delhi), then protest at your place, in your village and raise your voice. All the wrestlers who live in Chambal should also support us. Protest at your place in any way or through social media. You support us. We are fighting a battle of justice and truth," she said.
The appeal has received support from the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee's PCC delegate and NSUI national convenor Sachin Dwivedi, who visited Jantar Mantar to extend his support. He also stated that the wrestlers of Chambal will take the soil of their respective akhadas and go to Delhi to support the protest.
The strike has been organized by women wrestlers who have accused WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. The case is currently being heard in the Delhi court, and the next hearing is scheduled for May 12. The wrestlers have also appealed to register their protest by tying a black band on Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Malik has further demanded that the Supreme Court should get a narco test done on the seven victim players and Brij Bhushan, and whoever is found guilty should be punished severely. "We are fighting for justice and truth, and we will not stop until we get it," she said.
The appeal by Malik has brought the focus back on the ongoing strike by wrestlers, and it remains to be seen whether their demands will be met by the authorities.
