Bhopal - In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Bhopal has arrested three more members of a gang hailing from Rajasthan involved in a scam targeting elderly women under the guise of Ayurvedic treatment. The accused were apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan, bringing the total number of arrests to seven. The gang had cheated victims out of a staggering sum of Rs 42 lakh by exploiting their health conditions.

The modus operandi of the gang involved approaching elderly women with leg problems in hotels and restaurants. The main accused, Mohammad Imran, would pose as a concerned individual who had successfully treated his own mother with a special Ayurvedic procedure. Imran would refer victims to his accomplice, Sheru, who pretended to be a doctor. On the scheduled day, Sheru, accompanied by his partner Naeem, would visit the victim's residence.

Once at the victim's house, Sheru would inform them that poison had spread on their feet, which needed to be extracted through a machine. Claiming that the treatment required approximately 300-400 sessions, the gang members would charge exorbitant amounts from the victims. During each session, a funnel-shaped device would be used to extract a pus-like substance from the victim's feet, which was presented as the poisonous material causing their ailment.

To collect the exorbitant fees, the gang employed various tactics. When the victims did not possess the required amount, Naeem, posing as an assistant, would accompany them to a bank and assist in breaking fixed deposits belonging to the victims. The funds would then be transferred to the gang's accounts. Once the money arrived, the gang members swiftly withdrew the funds from different locations, primarily in Jodhpur, before distributing the proceeds among themselves.

The scam came to light when Rakesh Mohan Virmani, a retired Assistant General Manager of the State Bank of India, filed a complaint with the police. Virmani narrated how he and his wife fell victim to the fraud, ultimately losing a staggering sum of Rs 42.73 lakh. Following the complaint, Commissioner of Police Bhopal, Mr. Harinarayanachari Mishra, and Additional Commissioner of Police Bhopal, Mr. Anurag Sharma, directed the Crime Branch to take action.

Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime, Mr. Shelendra Singh Chauhan, the Crime Branch team, led by station in-charge Anup Kumar Uikey, sprung into action. After a week-long operation, the team successfully apprehended the three accused in Rajasthan. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Javed, and Mohammad Khalil.

The police recovered two checkbooks, an Aadhaar card, and a mobile phone from the possession of the accused. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to determine the extent of the gang's activities and identify other possible accomplices involved in the elaborate scam.

The diligent efforts of the Crime Branch team, including Anoop Kumar Uikey, Shivpal Singh Kushwaha, Mitesh Mujalde, Ghanshyam Dangi, Pushpendra Yadav, Zuber Ahmed, Dilip Bax, Santosh Parihar, Yogendra Panthi, Rishikesh Tyagi, Rajendra Rajput, Nilesh, Jitendra Chandel, have been lauded for their commendable role in uncovering the scam and bringing the culprits to justice.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent falling victim to such scams.
